Expertise and Research Interests

I am researching the history of libraries in Hawaii, Asian American librarians, and LIS education. I am also working on a small monograph relating Collection Management to changes in publishing.

I am also continuing my dissertation research on Japanese Americans and library use as well as Japanese American print culture at large.

I also do research to support my instruction on Library and Archive Administration, Information Sources & Systems in the Social Sciences, and the History of Libraries and Printing.

Future Research

I am revising my dissertation, 'Japanese American Community Libraries in America’s Concentration Camps, 1942-1946' for publication.

I am working on related projects on prewar and wartime Japanese American print culture.  I am also in the early stagesof working with Toru Yamada on an Atlas of Nikkei History in the Americas.

Industrial Relevance

I am interested in the impact of the book and larger information industry on society.
