Expertise and Research Interests

My research interest focuses on vertebrate paleontology, especially studies on systematics, evolutionary history, paleobiogeography and stable isotopes applied to paleoclimate reconstructions. I have been working during the last three years on the systematics and paleobiogeography of fossil turtles from South America. I would like to continue solving questions about the phylogeny and paleobiogeography of this group and other South America vertebrates, and its potential utility in the reconstruction of tropical paleoclimate during Cenozoic time. I like to address these questions using statistical, mathematical and stable isotopes methods.

Other Expertise

Other Research Fields:

EHD: I would like to contribute to the creation of the Earth History Database (EHD) working with the Cretaceous and Cenozoic fossils of Colombia: groups, fields fossil, taxonomy, holotypes, palaeogeography

Future Research

I would like to continue studying the Cenozoic tropical paleoclimate, using morphology, stable oxygen isotopes and other geochemical tools in vertebrate fossils and formulating new perspectives about the phylogeny, paleoecology and response of South American vertebrates, especially of turtles, to the major geological and climatic events. For that, I am going to initiate new field work, like in the Cerrejon locality and in other neotropical continental sequences.

Some questions and subjects on which I would like to work are:

The tropical Miocene climate using oxygen isotope records on the La Venta Fauna (South American Land Mammals), middle Miocene of Colombia and Urumaco fauna, late Miocene of Venezuela.

What are the principal causes of the extinctions and originations of pelomedusoides fossil turtles?
