Expertise and Research Interests

My research experience is in two different areas:

1. Semiconductor optics: Realizing the unprecedented light-matter coupling christened as "ultra-strong coupling" in the intersubband resonators. Femtosecond manipulation of light-matter interaction in intersubband microcavities.

2. Functional nanoceramics and dielectrics: Synthesis and characterization of Alumina-silver(metal-ceramic) nanocomposites and investigation of the electrical properties employing electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and thermal properties using photo-acoustic technique.

Probing the surface hydration-dehydration and their impact in the electrical response of low-dielectric constant silica aerogels using impedance spectroscopy.

Future Research

My future research interests include:

* Light-matter interaction in photonic-crystal nanocavities
* Optical storage and manipulation in photonic crystal nanocavities
* Single photon detectors for mid-infrared & THz frequencies
* Bose-Einstein condensation of intersubband polaritons

Industrial Relevance

1. We have experimentally demonstrated world's fastest optical-switch ever(Nature 458, 178, 2009), by the all-optical control of intersubband polariton coupling. This concept can be engineered to realize next generation sub-10 femtosecond optical modulators for telecommunication.

2.The strong-coupling of intersubband absorption planar microcavity modes can QWIPs (Quantum Well Infrared Photodetectors) with very low doping density and still having very good absorption; which may lead to high temperature operation of QWIPs.
