Expertise and Research InterestsI am interested in recovery from brain damage in humans, sensory plasticity, tactile vision substitution, and tactile augmentation of an astronaut's space suit glove. Brain plasticity is the major theme of studies, which include both laboratory and clinical research. Principal projects include the following:neurorehabilitation;neural mechanisms of recovery from brain damage;development of stroke and head injury rehabilitation methods based on scientific studies;timing of the delivery of service on the various phases of rehabilitation;composition of the rehabilitation team;animal models of neurorehabilitation;sensory substitution;systems and devices for providing visual information to blind persons, auditory information to deaf persons, and other devices for sensory losses (this area of study includes sensory augmentation, such as astronautics and space robotic hands);volume transmission (extra-synaptic information transmission) in the brain.
