Expertise and Research InterestsTamilyn Bakas, DNS, RN, FAHA, FAAN is an Associate Professor in the Department of Adult Health and Co-Director of the Center for Enhancing Quality of Life in Chronic Illness at Indiana University School of Nursing. Dr. Bakas conducts research aimed at improving the quality of life of family caregivers of stroke survivors. Her research in this area has resulted in the development of clinical assessment tools and measurement instruments for family caregiving research, and of a theoretically based intervention to address the particular needs of stroke family caregivers. As an educator, she teaches at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and serves as a mentor for students and faculty as they develop their programs of research. Nationally, Dr. Bakas has served in a variety of leadership roles to advocate for stroke legislation at the federal level, and to foster stroke educational programs for nurses and rehabilitation professionals.
