Expertise and Research Interests

During the last few years, I have been working on a book manuscript on contemporary Latin American socio-political poetry. It contains a theoretical model for analysis, a chapter on the history of socio-political poetry and specific studies on general characteristics based on the work of Otto Rene Castillo, Pedro Shimose and Roberto Fernandez Retamar. I have spent a year studying contemporary women poets of Mexico. As a result I have written a long article under consideration in Mexico City by LiteraturaMexicana. I have also developed my research interest in Chicano/a literature particularly Chicana poets. This is an interest that I hope to continue to develop by studying the work of Gloria Anzaldua. I am presently working as co-editor for a special issue on Chicano/a studies for Cuadernos Americanos (Mexico City). Future plans include an in-depth study of women's socio-political poetry in Latin America. As a Chcana poet I have been successful in the publication of two poetry collections and my work hasbeen included in anthologies and journals in the United States and Spain.Cross-departmental interests:Latin American studies; cross-cultural criticism; international studies; Chicano/a literature; women's studeiesForeign interests:Latin America; Mexico; Caribbean
