Expertise and Research Interests

My previous research involved the neonatal heart and the elements which control myocardial perfusion during intrauterine and neonatal life. Approximately 8 years ago I began to shift my focus to neonatal pulmonary diseases and their treatment. Our research included the use of high frequency ventilation to treat neonatal respiratory failure, particularly related to air leak syndrome, and the use of exogenous surfactant to treat surfactant deficiency neonatal pulmonary diseases.Following my experience as a Health Policy Fellow in the office of Senator John D. Rockefeller IV, I turned my interest to health policy and health care reform, focusing on the needs of children in a managed care environment. Specific efforts have involved the analysis of access and quality of care for children receiving care as part of HMO's and utilizing schools as a grouping mechanism for health insurance.
