Future Research

Definition of 'information technology workforce.'

Factors affecting the participation of women in information technology education and the information technology workforce.

Industrial Relevance

Current empirical and statistical evidence related to the information technology workforce provides a platform for analysis and decision-making that is shaky at best because of the lack of a standard definition of the 'information technology workforce.' My research will address this issue by proposing a classification system that is dynamic, flexible and cross-cultural in its approach.

Several studies show evidence that the participation of women in information technology education has declined sharply since 1993. Understanding the factors that have contributed that decline will assist information technology employers to recruit and retain women both for education and into the workforce.
