Expertise and Research Interests

Cheryl M. Scott, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is a Professor in Communication Disorders and Sciences. Research interests include normal and disordered language in school-age children and adolescents; spoken and written syntax and discourse analysis techniques and markers of language disorders in older children and adolescents. Publications have appeared in journals such as Topics in Language Disorders; Journal of Child Language; Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research; Language, Speeech, and Hearing Services in Schools, and in numerous edited collections. Dr. Scott is a Fellow of the American Speech Language Hearing Association and served as Vice President for Academic Affairs 2000-2003. Currently she is serving a 3 year term as an Associate Editor, Language for the Journal of Speech Language Hearing Research.

Future Research

Evidence-based intervention protocols for children and adolescents whose knowledge of complex syntactic-semantic structures affects spoken and written language comprehension and production.
