Expertise and Research Interests

My research examines recovery from stroke and other neurological conditions. The approach emphasizes bedside and functional MRI brain mapping methods. The questions at hand relate to understanding, predicting, and measuring recovery after a neurological insult. Why do some patients recover and others do not? What changes occur in the brain in relation to recovery? Brain mapping may provide a biological measure of some of the processes underlying behavioral improvement, and in doing so provide information useful for refining therapies that target these processes.

Other studies are devoted to understanding the pathogenesis of stroke in those patients in whom no cause can be identified.
