Re-configurable systems. Analog implementation of Artificial Neural Networks. Strategies for progressive controller design / implementation. Interfaces and communication among CIM elements: Diagnostic-modelling and implementation. - Diagnostics in automated systems has been attempted using classical fault tree methods. We intend to extend a novel approach being developed for modular controllers based on DES theory. Online performance evaluation tools for CIM: development of a Kernal system. - A comparative study of the performance evaluation tools followed by the development of tools for typical automation systems. Automated programme generation for PLC based automation. - Attempts to generate PLC programs directly from a system model have met with some degree of success. We intend to use modular Petri net models of automation systems for this purpose. Enterprise modelling: integrating on-line scheduling functions. - This will focus on the integration of OPT, TOC methodologies into enterprise resource planners. Evolutionary computing for shop floor control: affordable automation. - An attempt will be made to develop controllers based on Genetic Algorithms, Simulated Annealing and Neural modelling. Industrial RelevanceThe above research is focussed on the basic challenges to be encountered in reconfigurable and modular supervisory control and fault diagnosis in complex reactive systems, intelligent systems and enterprise modelling. The principle application areas are Complex Reactive Systems and Integrated Manufacturing/Production Systems. Related verification, validation, simulation and performance evaluation work is of general relevance.
