Expertise and Research Interests

My research has been focused on absolute quantification using MR signal injection method, small animal MRI and MRS, and design of nonlinear gradient coils for MR.
* Absolute quantification: we have developed a novel, non-invasive method and device to accurately quantify metabolite concentrations in magnetic resonance (MR) measurements both in vitro and in vivo. Our approach uses synthetic reference signal injection method that uses inductively coupled MR-like signals. The method has several important advantages over other MR quantification methods including easier calibration and automatic adjustment for variable coil loading conditions.
* Animal MRI and MRS: the main goal of this interdisciplinary research is to develop smart MR contrast agents using functionalized nanoparticles and to achieve non-invasive target MR imaging for pediatric brain cancer and Huntington's disease. Also, we are interested in noninvasive MRI and MRS to investigate inflammatory and histopathological changes in muscular dystrophic animal models of dog and mouse.
* Gradient enhanced perfusion: the goal of this project is to build and test a combined RF/nonlinear gradient probe to improve time resolution and reduce tissue heating in FAWSETS perfusion measurements in skeletal muscle.
