Expertise and Research Interests

Matthew Eaves is a first class graduate with five years experience as a senior researcher, developer and project manager of groundbreaking projects with the BBC, DfES, Oracle, RNLI, Apple and BAFTA. Matthew is currently employed at the world-class learning, technology and research centre `Ultralab': www.ultralab.net.

Working for five years independently, and as a team member, as a developer and a project leader Matthew Eaves heads up groundbreaking challenges at home and abroad. Effective use of new media and database driven web deliverables have concluded in the successful implementation of beneficial and forward moving operations for positive change within organisations worldwide. Ultralab is a non-profit making, common good learning technology research centre, therefore managing projects to ensure break even is critical, overspend is not an option.

Input CBBC - A joint collaboration project with the BBC to explore television made completely by children, some output was broadcast on BBC television. www.ultralab.tv/cbbc

Management of SummerSchool International - Ultralab's digital video flagship creativity project which runs internationally, provoking the Input CBBC project and also contributing to the communities together project in Northern Ireland and links at TVNZ (New Zealand) and in Singapore. Production of 3 multiple replicated SummerSchool branded DVD's from the project provides effective marketing for Ultralab worldwide. www.ultralab.net/summerschool
Project Management of LIFEBOATS.TV for the Royal National Lifeboat Institiution. The RNLI approached Ultralab to turnaround their aging reputation in the eyes of young people with a vision to ensure future support of the organisation for generations to come. Lifeboats.TV is the largest video based website on the internet with 457 movies compressed in 6 formats. This project required meeting and interviewing 140 people in 8 lifeboat stations and making short web film from the interviews. NPQH (National Provisional Qualification for Headship), a project for the DfES (Department for Education and Skills). Now the largest learning resources site in Europe the initial challenge was to turn a 36 booklet course study of headship into an online course supported by an online community. The online materials have significantly increased accessibility into headship, reversing decline. www.npqh.net

- Working with children, adults, technology phobic and the illiterate.
-Developer: (PHP, My,SQL, DVD Studio Pro 2 (4 DVD productions), Final Cut Pro 4, Live Channel 2, Movie 3, Cinema 4D, Live Type, FileMaker 6, Photoshop 8, Microsoft Office, Apple iLife, FirstClass, HTML and extensive use of both Apple Macintosh OS9/OSX and Windows XP operating systems.
-Full Project management (budgeting, client liaison, timeline development, trouble shooting, presentation skills, vision sharing, idea generating, training, and delegation).
- Media development, including filming right through to DVD production and web streaming.
- International business liaison, including a month based throughout New Zealand for Ultralab.
- PR and event management, including Ultralab's presence at the BETT education show with Apple Computer.
- Report writing, as a senior researcher I am expected to have an output of research.

Currently working on projects with: Apple, BBC Blast, BBC Radio Essex, Jisc and Oracle.

Currently writing a book on Digital Creativity, reflecting on six years of global practical action research.

Exploring how online communities can bring people online through 'Digital Teacher Network' a new initiative to bring together 200 of the most creative teachers across Europe.

Exploring how the next generation of Internet could create full and fast video across school networks.

Essex Broadband Partnership continues to explore ways new and emerging telecommunications can deliver and enable creative dissemination.

Matthew also continues to provide advice on technology advances on a regular slot on BBC Essex Radio.
