QualificationsM.D.. Expertise and Research InterestsI focus on the use of data processing techniques to augment decision processes in Internal Medicine. Using established clinical medical knowledge, computer programs are written for clinical applications. Clinical applications can be linked to form clinical systems. Specific problems I am seeking solutions to are: 1. Do decision support programs increase the effectiveness of physicians? 2. Can computing systems substitute for memorization in medical education? 3. Can protocol generators save time while maintaining quality clinical care? 4. Can mathematical analyses clarify answers to unclear clinical decisions? 5. Can computer systems provide a milieu of the efficient management of patient data? 6. Can expert systems elevate apprentice physicians to near-expert cognition through the use of such a program? 7. Can systems be designed for high ergonomics and mobility? Most of these problems have been a core of clinical computing research, or clinical informatics, for years and focused solutions have been achieved. Applications have commercial potential. My approach to these problems has primarily involved extensive application and systems programming in web servers and desktop computers.
