Industrial RelevanceInformation management and literacy are crucial components of a service-based economy. The ability to discover, organize, apply, and evaluate relevant information produce capable individuals for the information economy. Underrepresented minorities in health professions means those racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in their profession relative to their numbers in the general population. This definition accommodates including and removing underrepresented groups on the basis of changing demographics of society and stimulate data collection and reporting on the broad range of racial and ethnic self-descriptions. Health information professions face the same challenges as other health careers in becoming more representative and sensitive to the self-perceptions of the communities they serve.
