Expertise and Research Interests

Larry Hawk's research combines interest in three areas: psychophysiology, basic psychological processes (emotion and cognition), and health. Psychophysiological tools, such as the startle reflex and endocrine measures, are central in his basic research on emotion and attention, as well as applications to: a) mental health -- ongoing/recent studies focus on phobias, depression and ADHD; b) physical health -- primarily the health behavior smoking; and c) the interface between psychopathology and health behavior. The broad aims of this research are to elucidate basic processes relevant to clinical conditions and to inform prevention and intervention research.
