Virginia State University School of Agriculture Department of Agriculture and Human Ecology Agricultural Research Station Associate ProfessorAppointed: 1991 Virginia State University School of Agriculture Department of Agriculture and Human Ecology Agricultural Research Station Research ScientistAppointed: 1991 | |
QualificationsPh.D., University of Georgia, Agronomy - Plant Breeding, 1983. Expertise and Research InterestsResearch: - Elucidation of genetic and environmental control of phenotypic expression of agronomic, quality, and physiological traits of crop plants - Development of new crops for production of food, feed, and industrial products - Genetic improvement of crop plants to increase yield, quality, and other traits
Teaching: - Teaching of upper level Plant Science courses (Genetics, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology, Plant protection, etc.)
Statistics and Experimental Designs: - An expert user of SAS for analysis of data from agricultural experiments - Expert in designing/implementing of field crop designs - Have taught applied statistics to undergraduate students as a non-credit course Future ResearchDevelopment of canola and white lupin for use as industrial crops. Using locally-produced feedstocks for manufacturing BIODIESEL. Industrial RelevanceMy current focus is on development of canola and white lupin as new crops in Virginia. Both these crops have industrial uses: canola as a source of bio-diesel and lupin as a source of alkaloids and as a green manure crop to reduce/eliminate use of nitrogen fertilizers in a sustainable crop production system.
I am currently conducting research with various oilseed crops to determine their suitabilities as feedstocks for manufacturing BIODIESEL.
