Expertise and Research Interests

Current research in the laboratory include:
1. Protection of oligodendroglia by cyclic GMP and metabotropoic glutamate receptors
2. Differential effects of Th1, monocyte/macrophage, and Th2 cytokines on early gene expression in glia (gene array analysis); collaboration with Dr. Robert Lisak.
3. Signal transduction and immediate early gene pathways leading to cell death in oligodendroglia and glial cell lines following exposure to nitric oxide or influxes of calcium.
4. Effects of cyclic AMP and cytokines on early gene expression in Schwann cells (gene array analysis); collaboration with Dr. Robert Lisak.
5. Metabolism and uptake of N-acetyl aspartic acid in oligodendroglia; collaboration with Dr. James Garbern.
