Qualifications

Ph.D., Michigan State University, Environmental Toxicology, 1991.
M.S., Michigan Technological University, Aquatic Biology, 1985.
B.S., Michigan State University, Limnology, 1978.

Expertise and Research Interests

1. Movement and fate of trace contaminants in aquatic ecosystems. Current focus on fluorochemicals and halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons such as PCBs, PCDFs, PCDDs.
2. Development and use of in vivo and in vitro molecular/biochemical markers of the effect of xenobiotics on the reproduction, growth and development of aquatic organisms.
3. Development of novel genetic methods to examine and profile potential exposure of aquatic organisms to complex classes of chemicals. Methods include microarray technologies, differential display, real time PCR, SSH-PCR.
4. Development of nonlethal methods to examine potential exposure and effect of environmental organisms to chemical and environmental stress.
5. Use of bioassessment techniques to examine ecosystem health in aquatic environments.
