M.S., University of Wisconsin-Madison, Electrical Engineering, 1984.
B.S., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Electrical Engineering, 1982.

Expertise and Research Interests

I study electrical stimulation of touch and tactile displays for communicating information to people. My research involves understanding the neurophysiological mechanisms involved as well as developing practical tactile display systems. A second area of interest is developing non-invasive neuromodulation systems for persons with neurological disorders.

Industrial Relevance

Tactile displays (which present two-dimensional pressure profiles, rather than gross force per limb) may be useful adjuncts to presently available force-feedback human interfaces for telerobotics and virtual environments.
