Qualifications

Fellow, Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center, Seattle, Pediatric Pathology, 1992.
Residency, University of Washington, Anatomic Pathology, 1991.
M.D., University of Southern California, Medicine, 1988.
Ph.D., University of Southern California, 1986.

Expertise and Research Interests

My general field of study is the pathogenesis of birth defects. As part of the diagnostic pathology service at the Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center, I evaluate human fetuses with various congenital disorders, in an effort to understand the underlying etiology and clinical significance of such conditions. My research interests include a broad range of human malformations, but a major focus has been the pathololgy and pathogenesis of pediatric intestinal dysmotility. In the past, I directed an experimental laboratory that used murine models to investigate maldevelopment of the enteric nervous system. At present, I rely primarily on data acquired from human patients to perform translational studies that seek to extend information gleaned from animal models to the pathology observed in children with dysmotility.

Other Expertise

Board-certified pediatric pathologist with a special interest in human fetal and placental pathology, as well as gastrointestinal neuromuscular pathology.
