Charles Keil

My primary interest is in helping people to express more of themselves through human rites. Towards this end, I teach classes in ethnomusicology and sociomusicology about the social and cultural forces that nurture or block full expression. I coordinate song-dance-drumming classes at the State University of New York at Buffalo and in other schools; organize parties, dances, demonstrations for the Greens; pursue field studies of the peoples' musics that still support people's rites in Polish-America, Afro-America, Cuba, and Greece.
