Expertise and Research Interests

Primary research theme focuses on environmentally sustainable visitor use in protected areas. Specific interests include:
- Developing visitor impact indicators and monitoring methods for recreation and park resources, particularly trails, campsites and other recreation sites
- Reducing visitor impacts through resource and visitor management techniques, including education and communication
- Planning environmentally sustainable visitor use for parks and protected areas
- Developing concepts and models for the emerging field of recreation ecology

Other Expertise

- Environmental issues of ecotourism development in protected areas of East Asia and the Pacific
- Applications of spatial analysis and geospatial technologies
