Expertise and Research InterestsFranklin Cudjoe is head of Ghanaian think-tank Imani: The Centre for Policy & Education which is a think-tank based in Accra dedicated to researching economic trends to glean practical public-policy insights for the benefit of government, business and civil society in Ghana.
He is keen on analysing the linkages between institutional capacity of a complex corporate entity such as the government in a developing country and its ability to deliver on the most basic of public services for the 'welfare' of all.
He is motivated and holds the view that the institutions of the free society are the best way to empower individuals, to promote respect for people and property, and thereby to eliminate poverty, improve human health and protect the environment.
He is interested in public choice theory in order to understand the trappings of public services management. This affords me the opportunity to match my orientation with what works in the books, what obtains practically in much more advanced communities and how the situation can be improved in our rather reversing circumstances as a developing nation.
He advises corporate bodies on social investment projects, speak to policy makers and students groups in Ghana and abroad. Currently my organization is recognized by the WTO as helping to regenerate momentum in the Doha trade round that has temporarily suffered a set back.
His work has impacted significant policies on corporate taxation, health regulation, water privatisation and effective governance in Ghana and Africa.
He has won two Franklin Templeton Foundation awards for advancing the institutional foundations of the free and democratic society in 2006. Mr Cudjoe was honoured in 2005 by Bill Gates Snr on his advocacy on health economics in Africa.
He has been cited in House of Commons debate on aid and development in Africa and by South Africa's Supreme Court Judge on patents and Intellectual property in April 2006.
He has shared panel with respected academics such as Deepak Lal and former Prime Ministers of Malaysia and Estonia. He debated President Benjamin Mkapa on colonialism and globalisation. Mr Cudjoe and immediate Economist Editor, Bill Emmot, were the only guest speakers at an IPN event to honour Journalists that support Economic Freedom.
Mr Cudjoe works with Ghanaian Universities, Health and Economic Finance Ministries, the United Kingdom's Parliament on Global Poverty Challenge, the UK Department for International Development, the George MasonUniversity's Institute for Humane Studies, the Evian Group and World Trade Organization, having helped the latter in trying to rejuvenate the stalled trade talks.
Today, Cudjoe is a frequent commentator in print and broadcast media about Africa development issues, including appearances on BBC, CBC, Swiss and Swedish National TV, Austrian National Radio and varied local Ghanaian media, and has been published or quoted severally in the Ghanaian Daily Graphic, Accra Daily Mail, Ghana Web, My Joy online,London's Daily Telegraph, The Wall Street Journal (all three versions), Bangkok Post, Washington Times, El Mercurio (Chile), La Republica (Costa Rica),the Ottawa Citizen, the San Francisco Chronicle, Netzeitung Voice Of Germany, and many others. He speaks to policy makers, students groups in Ghana and abroad as well as advice small businesses on strategy for managing and securing finding.

Mr Cudjoe is part of the Brains Trust of the Evian Group at IMD, the best Business School outside of the U.S.
He is co-author of "The Water Revolution: Practical Solutions to Water Scarcity" (with forewords by Hernando de Soto and Sir Ian Byatt) and author of a forth coming publication, "Hobbled Trade: Trade Barriers within Africa".
