Expertise and Research Interests

Dr. Magaziner pursues research in aging in three interrelated areas: the consequences of hip fracture, health and long-term care, and methods for studying older populations. The major focus of this work is to identify ways of enhancing functioning and improving the quality of life for older persons. The specific conditions which Dr. Magaziner has targeted are hip fracture and dementia. Studies include examining changes in bone and muscle following hip fracture, changes in bone turnover, hip fracture outcomes in men, and the outcomes of dementia in long term care settings.

Future Research

Identification and evaluation of strategies to improve recovery from hip fracture and other debilitating conditions in older persons
