Expertise and Research Interests

Dr. Doumit's research efforts are directed toward identifying hormonal and nutritional factors that regulate skeletal muscle growth. Current projects are focused on identifying causes for developmental changes in myoblast activity.

Dr. Doumit's laboratory is also involved in identifying biochemical markers which may be used to predict meat quality traits such as tenderness, color, and water-holding capacity. The goal of this research is to identify ways to more efficiently produce wholesome, palatable and nutritious meat products.

Research in Dr. Doumit's laboratory utilizes a variety of techniques including cell culture, protein characterization, immunocytochemistry, electrophoresis, Northern blot and Western blot analyses.
