Industrial Relevance

Cardiac regeneration may eventually become a clinical reality, especially for patients who suffer from congestive heart failure. Such patients have few options, and many more are predicted to be diagnosed in the coming decade. Current methods of cellular differentiation and growth make possible the administration of a large numbers of cells. However, mechanisms are unclear and ongoing knowledge searches these, while giving others. This is especially so in an era aimed at minimizing surgical trauma, which has included a move towards lesser degrees of invasion. Pills, patches and injections are a logical progression from the current trend spanning surgery to catheter-based interventions.
