QualificationsM.S., University of Maryland at Baltimore, Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, 1997. M.D., Johns Hopkins University, 1990. Expertise and Research InterestsDr. Mary-Claire Roghmann is an infectious disease physician and epidemiologist studying emerging pathogens and healthcare acquired infections. She received her M.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and her M.S. from the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at the University of Maryland. Dr. Roghmann is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine. She is also the Hospital Epidemiologist for the VA Maryland Health Care System.
Dr. Roghmann studies the epidemiology of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens such as methicillin-resistance S. aureus including risk factors for acquisition and infection and the impact on patients and the healthcare system. She has published over 50 papers and book chapters and mentored more than 20 faculty members, graduate students, fellows, residents and medical students. She has funding from the VA Research and Development and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to study antibiotic resistance in the health care setting. Finally, she teaches clinical epidemiology as Education Director for the University of Maryland's General Clinical Research Center and on the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine's K30 grant.
