QualificationsPh.D., University of Reading, Meteorology, 1989. B.S., Nanjing University, P.R. China, Atmospheric Sciences, 1984. Expertise and Research InterestsI am an associate professor at the School of Meteorology (SOM), and Director of the Center for Analysis and Prediction of Storms (CAPS), University of Oklahoma (OU). Before joining SOM in 1999 as a faculty member, I was with CAPS for 10 years, starting as a post-doc and ending as a senior scientist. I remained as the CAPS scientific director until resuming the director position in 2006. I was the main developer of the Advanced Regional Prediction System (ARPS), and continue to use it for a variety of reserach. I hold a B.S. degree in meteorology from Nanjing University, China, and a Ph.D. degree in meteorology from University of Reading, U.K. My research interests include the development of advanced numerical techniques, and modeling and data assimilation systems, the simulation, prediction, dynamics, and predictability of mesoscale and convective scale weather systems, tornado dynamics, advanced data assimilation and retrieval techniques for radar and other high-resolution observations. My personal web page is at http://twister.ou.edu. Future ResearchLand surface processes, regional climate simulations, coupling of atmospheric and hydrology models, satellite data assimilation, hurricane prediction Industrial RelevanceMy research and expertises in mesoscale and storm-scale numerical weather prediction are relavant to all industries that are sensitive to weather. Examples include airline, utility, agriculture, construction and tourism industries.
