Expertise and Research Interests

David R. Patterson, Ph.D., ABPP, ABPH, graduated Summa Cum Laude from Emory University with a BA in Psychology. He obtained his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Florida State University and then completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Emory University and a Residency in Medical Psychology at Oregon Health Sciences University. He is a Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Patterson's primary research interest is in pain management. Most recently, his work has involved the use of virtual reality for pain management. In addition, he has been studying psychological interventions for behavior management of inpatients with burn injuries, and psychological outcomes as part of a model systems grant.
