Qualifications

M.A., Anglia Ruskin University, Education, 2004.
B.Sc., University of Nottingham, Maths and Physics, 1978.

Expertise and Research Interests

I work in the field of education, specifically as strand leader for the PGCE in Applied ICT (14-19) . I teach in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in education information technology domains.

I am a member of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust Expert Panel for ICT and an evaluator for the EU e-learning programme since 2003.

In 2006, I was part of a consultancy team advising Microsoft on interface design.

My M.A. research was into the impact of online learning to the self-direction of the adult learner. I have written and presented papers on this and on the use of online communities for learning.

My PhD research is into the validity of assessment of ICT capability.

I am also interested in the ways in which new technologies affect the chronology and modes of learning and assessment.

I have established online discussion spaces for NCSL , for bespoke training programmes on e-facilitation, for masters level modules for teachers and for professional CPD for Naace. Platforms used for this include Oracle's think.com, First Class and customized spaces using Plone, an open source content management system. In all cases the emphasis has been on learning through discussion based around a specific item or set of content.
