Industrial RelevanceResearch on human factors in healthcare and patient safety: applicable to improving quality and safety of patient care, as well as working conditions of healthcare workers; applicable to designers and manufacturers of healthcare and medical equipment and devices. Dr. Carayon and two collaborators, Drs. Alvarado and Hundt, have written a paper on 'Reducing workload and increasing patient safety through work and workspace design' commissioned by the Institute of Medicine (IOM). This paper was used by the IOM's Committee on the Work Environment for Nurses and Patient Safety in its report on 'Keeping Patients Safe – Transforming the Work Environment of Nurses' released on November 4, 2003.
Research on quality of working life and occupational safety and health: applicable to improving work, reducing errors, improving safety and health in a variety of industries.
Research on human factors of computer and information security: applicable to improving the organizing of the computer and information securityfunction in a wide range of organizations.
