Expertise and Research Interests

My principal field of interest is palynology and especially the use of marine (dinoflagellate cysts) and terrestrial (pollen and spores) palynomorphs to solve biostratigraphic and palaeoecological questions. I am interested in using dinoflagellate cysts in combination with pollen and spores to produce solid biostratigraphic schemes in places where water depth and carbonate sedimentation limit the occurrence of other microfossil groups of biostratigraphic relevance, such as planktonic foraminifera and calcareous nanoplankton. I am also interested in combining information of terrestrial and marine palynomorphs in order to understand how primary producers, such as land-plants and dinoflagellates, respond during times of environmental crisis and how their responses can be used as proxies to quantify changes in the physical and geochemical earth system.
