Qualifications

Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison, Reproduction Physiology, 1996.
M.S., Kansas State University, Reproduction Physiology, 1992.
B.S., Kansas State University, Dairy Production, 1974.

Expertise and Research Interests

- Applied reproductive physiology in dairy cattle
- Development and extension of practical reproductive management strategies to enhance profitability of dairy production
- Improving fertility of lactating dairy cows following Ovsynch
- Altering time of AI relative to ovulation to improve fertility and to study alterations in sex ratio
- Understanding follicle and CL development in order to synchronize ovulation for Ovsynch strategies and to increase embryo production in superstimulated cows

Other Expertise

Use of ultrasonography to study changes in follicle and corpora lutea development of cattle and to reduce time to pregnancy diagnoses.

Future Research

Determine if hastening the time from emergence of the ovulatory follicle to ovulation enhances fertility of the lactating dairy cow.

Industrial Relevance

New ideas generated from from our laboratory during the past 6 years are currently being utilized in practical programs to increase conception rates in dairy cows from approximately 30 to 45 %. This increase translates into $150 more profit per cow per year or on an average 200 cow MI dairy about $30,000 per year.
