Expertise and Research Interests

Drugs for the treatment of leishmaniasis: Sodium stibogluconate and meglumine antimonate are the drugs of choice for treating infections with the parasitic protozoan, Leishmania. Despite their use for half a century, little is known of their pharmacology. We are studying the composition, mechanism of action, and pharmacokinetics of these drugs.

AIDS pharmacology: Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs used to treat HIV infection and associated opportunistic infections. Currently we are studying interactions between drugs for addiction (methadone, LAAM, buprenorphine) and drugs used to treat HIV infection (nucleoside and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, protease inhibitors).

Laboratory medicine: Analytical and clinical studies of laboratory testing.
