R. China Other Expertise1. My research has many applications in "human factors" research applications, especially with issues of cross-cultural representaton of signs and symbols. 2. Small Group Communication; expertise on the comparison of Individual (Egocentric = USA) and Group (Sociocentric = PR China) centered cultures and behaviors. 3. I have directed 35 Ph.D. dissertations in Communicology; and, served as an examiner on an additional 65 dissertation commiittees in several human science disciplines at a number of different universities. Future Research1. Current cultural research is focused on semiotics and cultural analysis in P. R. China, especially as compared to the USA. 2. Continuing research on theory construction in Communicology (= Semiotic Phenomenology). 3. Continuing applied work on Qualitative Research Methods using Logic and Semiotic norms for interpretive validity and reliability as measured by necessary and sufficient condition tests for Depiction (Description) outcomes. Industrial Relevance1. Human Factors: Perception of codes and messages; recognition of signs and symbols in all applied areas such as signage (highways, airports, medical alert, warning levels, etc.). 2. Advertising & Marketing: Nonverbal message signs/symbols in same-culture and cross-cultural contexts such as picture substitution for written language, logos, corporate icons, etc. 3. Biometrics: Verbal and Nonverbal behavior for security screening, behavioral profile, face recognition, kinesic body identity, etc. 4. Group Dynamics: Team, Cohort, Task Group behavior in social and work settings.
