Expertise and Research Interests

My current research involves the use of fluorescent biosensors and biomarkers for evaluating the function of living cells and tissues. I developed methods to monitor a variety of endpoints in cells using commercially available fluorescent molecules including: 1-Detection and analysis of intracellular Calcium content, calcium fluxes, intrinsic and induced calcium oscillations. 2-Analysis of calcium changes induced by environmental factors. 2-Analysis of mitochondrial membrane potential, description of oscillations in mitochondrial membrane potential, and detection of mitochondrial permeability transition following toxic insults. 3-Detection and quantitative assessment of gap junction mediated intercellular communication (diffusion of fluorescent probes between cells) and metabolic cooperation (cell-cell sharing of specific molecules such as glutathione) 4-Determination of chronology of events involved in toxicity mechanisms 5-Quantitative analysis and mathematical modeling of cellular signaling.
