QualificationsPh.D., Universite Claude Bernard - Lyon I - France, Material Science, 1984. M.Sc., Universite Claude Bernard - Lyon I - France, Material Science, 1983. B.Sc., Beirut Arab University, Electrical Engineering, 1980. Expertise and Research InterestsMy current research involves the use of fluorescent biosensors and biomarkers for evaluating the function of living cells and tissues. I developed methods to monitor a variety of endpoints in cells using commercially available fluorescent molecules including: 1-Detection and analysis of intracellular Calcium content, calcium fluxes, intrinsic and induced calcium oscillations. 2-Analysis of calcium changes induced by environmental factors. 2-Analysis of mitochondrial membrane potential, description of oscillations in mitochondrial membrane potential, and detection of mitochondrial permeability transition following toxic insults. 3-Detection and quantitative assessment of gap junction mediated intercellular communication (diffusion of fluorescent probes between cells) and metabolic cooperation (cell-cell sharing of specific molecules such as glutathione) 4-Determination of chronology of events involved in toxicity mechanisms 5-Quantitative analysis and mathematical modeling of cellular signaling.
