Expertise and Research Interests

My current research interests and areas of expertise include the following:The autonomic regulation of mammalian airways is investigated by use of pharmacologic and physiologic techniques;Airway inflammation, particularly eicosanoids, are studied as factors affecting airway smooth muscle;The interactions of airway epithelium with smooth muscle are studied to determine the role played by epithelium in the regulation of bronchial reactivity;We are one of the few laboratories in the world that is investigating the pathogenesis of chronic airway disease in the horse (heaves);Respiratory function testing in large mammals has been conducted in our laboratory for several years. We do more of this than any other laboratory in the world;The adaptations of the horse respiratory system to intense exercise are being studied while horses exercise on a high-speed treadmill;Flow-volume loops are being investigated to diagnostic methods for upper airway obstruction in horses;The efficacy of bronchodilators for use in horses is tested in our laboratory;Although the role of viruses and inflammatory cells in the pathogenesis of bovine respiratory disease (shipping fever) was investigated in our laboratory several years ago, we still retain an interest in this field.

I have edited several multi-author texts and therefore have considerable expertise in veterinary publishing.I have extensive experience in proving efficacy of drugs for treatment of the respiratory system. This knowledge would be useful to drug companies and regulatory agencies.
