QualificationsPh.D., Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University, ICRISAT, Plant Physiology, 2000. M.Sc., Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University, Plant Physiology, 1995. B.Sc., Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University, Agriculture, 1991. Expertise and Research InterestsContributed significantly to the assessment of responses of corn, cotton, soybean, and cowpea crops to many environmental changes projected by global circulation models. Utilized this information to relate crop response to weather patterns. In the larger perspective of global climate change, the research work has shown that if the hypothesized changes occur without compensating improvements in crop stress tolerance, or ways to avoid weather extremes, the productivity of fruit- and seed-bearing plants will be drastically reduced.
Processes quantified include: growth, development, photosynthesis, water relations, phenology, leaf area expansion, stem and internode extension, square and boll growth, and fiber properties, yield losses and causes for yield and quality reductions, pollen parameters.
Assessing the effect of glycine betaine, an osmoprotectant, in alleviating the drought effects under field conditions in cotton and soybean crops. Other ExpertiseStatistical packages: SAS, GENSTAT
- Through several well organized field and growth chamber experiments, proved the fact that the application of glycine betaine could enhance the germination, seedling vigor, growth, development and finally the yields of the major SAT crop: groundnut under drought, high temperature and salinity conditions. - Developed technological options (management and genetic) for the major biotic and abiotic constraints for adoption of legumes in rice and wheat cropping systems in SAT - Established nutrient budgets for various legume-based cropping systems in seven Asian countries (India, Srilanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Thailand and Nepal) - Biochemical changes (starch, protein, sugars, and enzymes like a-amylase, invertase and sucrose synthase) in developing kernels of super sweet, sweet and normal corns KeywordsCOS Keywords:Climate Change, Global Change, Natural Resources Management, Plant Physiology Or Morphology, Plant Sciences, Soil Sciences.Additional Terms:Abiotic Stress Physiology, Global Climate Change.Languages(Reading, Writing, Speaking)English: (Fluent, Fluent, Fluent) Hindi: (Fluent, Fluent, Fluent) Telugu: (Fluent, Fluent, Fluent) MembershipsAmerican Society of Agronomy Gamma Sigma Delta Honors and Awards2005, Member,
