Expertise and Research Interests

Summary of research interests: Ovarian hormones are vasoactive steroids affecting the hemodynamics factors involved in arterial tone and blood flow. Genomic actions in the vascular endothelium and smooth muscle as well as non-genomic actions of steroids in these cells are clinically significant. We have taken an interdisciplinary approach (GYN/ Neurology; GYN/Cardiology and GYN/Psychiatry) to studying women with histories of migraine, stroke, myocardial infarction, angina and psychological depression to determine the role of hormone deficiency and the actions of treatment with estrogens and progestins.

Work also includes study of androgen effects on blood flow and sexual function.
