Expertise and Research Interests

My research program in medical decision making focuses on the prescriptive analysis of clinical oncology problems, using the tools of clinical decision analysis and cost-effectiveness analysis. I seek to create mathematical models to better understand the tradeoffs that often exist in health care: between long-term benefit and short-term mortality, between length of life and quality of life, and between economic costs and health benefits. These health care tradeoffs are pervasive throughout cancer prevention, detection and treatment. By explicitly understanding these tradeoffs, I hope to ultimately improve our patients' lives.
