QualificationsPost-Doctoral Fellowship, University of Pittsburgh, Immunotoxicology, 1987. Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Madison, Environmental Toxicology, 1984. M.S., University of Wisconsin-Madison, Biomedical Engineering, 1980. B.S., University of Wisconsin-Madison, Chemical Engineering, 1978. Expertise and Research InterestsMy research is focused in the area of bioaerosol toxicology. Current principal investigations include:
Assessment of exposures to various toxicants in occupational settings with particular emphasis on organic dust and endotoxin.
Development and useof inhalation animal models for studies of pulmonary inflammatory diseases and their prevention or treatment.
Toxic effect of environmental agents that lead to immunosuppression or hypersensitivity.
Efficacy and pulmonary toxicity of antimicrobial peptides as therapeutic agents for lung infection.
Aerosol delivery of adenoviral vectors and DNA/plasmid constructs for pulmonary gene therapy.
Important aspects of my work include aerosol physics, air pollution engineering, and occupational healthand safety. I place special emphasis on organic dust exposures, bioaerosols and aeroallergens in agricultural settings and their relevance to rural health.
