Expertise and Research InterestsMy research interests include: Biomathematical Modeling of Cancer Treatments Multimodality Imaging using MRSI, Perfusion and Diffusion MRI Multimodality Image Guided Radiation Therapy Optical Guided Fractionated Stereotactic Radiation Therapy Optical Guided 3D Ultrasound Target Localization Optical Guided Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) Quality Assurance Methods for IMRT Stereotactic Radiosurgery Future ResearchMy current and future research efforts are directed towards incorporating advanced imaging techniques into the radiotherapy planning process. These adavnced imaging techniques include chemical shift imaging (CSI), which can identify malignant cells by their metabolic "fingerprint," blood oxygen-dependent imaging (BOLD MR), which can identify hypoxic regions in tumors, and Perfusion MR, which can identify regions of neovascularization in rapidly developing malignant tissue, Diffusion MR, which can identify regions of active cell proliferation within a tumor. It is hypothesized that the incorporation of these new imaging modalities in radiation treatment planning process will allow the planner to determine the extend of the tumor more accurately and aid theplanner in determining regions within the tumor that may be boosted to higher radiation doses, and therefore increase tumor control.
