Expertise and Research Interests

My knowledge, skills and expertise reside in three related areas of foreign languages and international education: (1) second language acquisition, pedagogy and methodology; (2) Italian language, literature, culture, and cinema; and (3) civic engagement and service learning in international settings. In the area of foreign/second language acquisition, pedagogy and methodology, past, present and future research topics and interests include: effectiveness of classroom instruction; the role of the language teacher; interactive technologies as a pedagogical tool; and the use of cinema in teaching. In the area of Italian language, literature and culture, past, present, and future research topics and interests include: narrative translation and visions of Italian education in film and literature; My administrative work lies in the areas of study abroad and language competencies; practice and experiential education and service learning; academic service learning and the pedagogy of engagement; and civic engagement in international settings. My cross-departmental interests are: political science; women's studies; mass communication; and Judaic studies.

Other Expertise

Other research interests and expertise include: the history and culture of the Italians in the western United States, specifically in the State of Colorado; Italian emigration to the United States; and the history and culture of Denver Jewry.
