Expertise and Research Interests

Expertise:
Barraett's esophagus
Gastrointestinal pathology
Gastrointestinal tumors
Immunohistochemistry
Diagnostic, predictive, and prognostic markers in human cancers

My major research interests are the study of premalignant lesions of the gastrointestinal tract such as Barrett's esophagus and dysplastic lesions (adenomas) of the colon and rectum. My interests also include diagnostic, predictive, and prognostic markers in human cancers and premalignant conditions, markers of treatment response, and surrogate end point markers.

Future Research

Continue research to identify molecular events and their sequence during malignant progression in Barrett's esophagus, and using these to develop better surveillance, prevention, and treatment strategies for patients with Barrett's esophagus and esophageal cancer. Investigate new treatment and prevention strategies for esophageal and colorectal cancers and their precursors. Develop and validate diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive markers in human gastrointestinal cancers and their precursors. Evaluatethe effect of physical and chemical agents on gastrointestinal cancer tissues in vitro.

Industrial Relevance

With my research and clinical experience I can assist in developing and evaluatng diagnostic and prognostic tests, and tests to predict response to targeted therapies, that utilize immunohistochemistry as the method of assay.
